LOOK Gordie Howe makes first public appearance since stroke

Not even five months removed from what family members termed a significant stroke, Gordie Howe made his first public appearance. Mr. Hockey made the trip from Lubbock, Texas, to his native Saskatchewan, where he was honored at the Kinsmen Sports Celebrity Dinner Friday night.At points after the stroke, it appeared that the 86-year-old Hall of Famer would be lucky to make it a few more months at all, let alone leave his daughters home in Texas. His children kept the public at large abreast of all of the developments despite what must have been an incredibly difficult time for them as a family. Now Howe will be able to show those at the dinner and by extension his fans acro s the world how he is doing.Howes Jerian Grant Jersey miraculous recovery comes at the aid of experimental stem-cell therapy according to his family. His son, Dr. Murray Howe, recently detailed the incredible recovery in an interview with the NHL Network program as Mr. Hockey went from unable to walk, speak or feed himself to gaining 20 pounds and his mobility back. : "He's doing very, very well," said Dr. Howe, the director of sports medicine imaging of Toledo Hospital. "He has good days and bad days like anybody who's 86 years old , but overall he's heading in the right direction really every day, a little bit better. He had his stem cell treatment Dec. 8 and really since that time he's just been doing fantastic."He loves to be busy. If you want to torture him just make him sit down and watch television. He is just about doing stuff. He's in great spirits. He has an excellent quality of life. He's doing all the things that he wants to do now other than fishing, only because we haven't taken him fishing since his treatment, but he's looking forward to doing that."According to Dr. Howe, his father walked for the first time in nearly two months within eight hours after his treatment and was able to speak as well. Gordie Howe put on the 20 pounds after he was able to regain the ability to feed himself and even got as active as playing hockey in the street, throwing a football and kicking a soccer ball with his children and grandchildren.Howe joined his sons, Mark and Marty, who each played in the NHL, as well as NHL legends Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Hull and Brett Hull Ralph Sampson Jersey , among many others in Saskatoon for what was being termed as great's final public appearance.Here's Howe getting ready to be honored:Gordie Howe getting ready for banquet in his honour.
